Come and try your hand at scything in our meadows at National Trust Knightshayes with champion scyther Andrea Rickard. Simply drop in anytime throughout the day to either give scything a go or to learn more about our meadows and meadow management in general.
Discovery Day is an afternoon packed full of family activities including children’s nature trails, storytellers, sheepdog demonstrations, bee hotel tours, pet lambs, craft activities and homemade cake. Bring a picnic, come and meet the team and discover the wonders of Three Hagges Wood Meadow in the summer time.
This small meadow was recently established as a memorial to Francesca Griffith, a local conservationist who died in January 2014. Explore this wild flower meadow which was runner up of the Meadows & Grasslands Award in 2016 with expert botanists and ecologists. There will be a beginner’s guide to flower identification, a mini-beast hunt and a macro photography workshop. There will also be an opportunity to try your hand at cutting the meadow with a scythe and making hay bales with our hand-operated hay baling machine.
